NEWS

Congratulations Kathy from California!
22/06/2008

Kathy has just graduated, finishing with her nursing masters degree. This is a big deal for anyone, but especially for Kathy, she is over 60! Her nephew Dyson, and his brother want her to know that they are very proud of her, and since she is a horse lover, they have made a generous donation to ERLSI in her name as a graduation gift.

Thank you guys, and again, Congratulations Kathy!

Eight More Horses!
27/03/2008

Over the last week we have aquired eight more horses. They came from Hendricks County up by Indianapolis, IN. We don't normally go up that far to rescue horses, but we were asked by Indiana Horse Council and Hendricks County Animal Control if we could help out, so we did. We really didn't expect to bring eight home either, we went up there expecting to bring only three back with us. However, when we got there Mary Ann (Hendricks Co. Animal Control Officer) said that she had placed all but two of them, so we told her if she could place one of them, we would take one more. When we got home we spread the word about the one that she couldn't place, and found a possible home for her. Then we found out that the person who was supposed to take three of them could no longer take them. So guess what?

These are all very nice horses, two Quarter Horses, three Fresian mixes, and three Appaloosas. We aren't sure how many of them are broke to ride yet, but think maybe all but one is. They aren't up for adoption yet, as the owners are being prosecuted, but we hope to have them up for adoption soon.

When Hendricks County rescued these guys they were all scored at body scores of one. They are coming along very nicely though, and it won't be long before they are all fat and sassy!

Their photos will be on the "New Horse" page soon.

Walking Horses Rescue in Jeffersonville
26/03/2008

On February 25, ERLSI along with Clark County Animal Control, and Clark County Sheriff's Department seized eight Tennessee Walking Horses. All but one of them were body scores of one! There were two mares, one filly, four geldings, and one stallion. They were all so weak, and emaciated that we couldn't even vaccinate or worm them. The stallion was in such bad shape that he went down in the trailer on the way to the farm we took them to. It took us about 20 minutes to get him back on his feet. He walked a few steps and immediately layed back down, so we had our veterinarian give him a vitamin B shot. For the next three days we were very concerned about him, because all he could do was lie around. He wouldn't even stand up to relieve himself, and that as we all know, is a very bad sign. However, after much TLC, and some food and water, Willow (his new name) finally stood without help, and stayed up for quite a while. Today he, along with the rest of his herd have gained between 75 and 125 pounds each. The young ones are finally playing like they should, and they are all very alert.

The owner of these horses is going to be prosecuted, so we will try to keep everyone updated on this.

Also, we have learned that some of them were stolen. At first people contacted us, but we couldn't let anyone come out and see them. We are now allowing those people to come up to the farm in hopes of reuniting them with their horses. If you know someone, or are someone that owned any of these horses, please send an email to chester@erlsi.com so that we can make arrangements to see if we have your horse.

When we first rescued these guys three news channels came out and did stories on the them which generated quite a few donations. We appreciate all the donations we received more than words can say. However, this is an on-going thing, and we will be feeding these horses for a long time and we are still in need of donations.

Photos can be viewed at the New Rescue page.
