We
are a501 (c) 3corporation,
totally dependant upon donations, fund-raising and grants. We do not have a paid staff working for us, we have volunteers
that donate their time and energy to help the horses.Currently, we are just a small group of people (always looking
for new members to join!) dedicated to the care and well-being of all
equines, consisting of a six memberboardand various members at
large. We each work on our own
farms, sharing the responsibilities of our rescues.
Our
founder felt the calling to create a rescue organization after seeing
too many cases of horrible neglect and abuse, realizing there was no
legal alternatives to help these animals.ERLSI works with local law enforcement and animal
control officials in the investigation of all neglect
and/or abuse allegations.We
would prefer to educate owners about the proper care of their horse, but
in some cases we are given custody, and eventual possession of the
animal for it’s own health and well-being.
When we bring an animal to one of our board member’s facilities, we
immediately contact our veterinarian and have them do a thorough exam
including vaccinations, teeth care, de-worming, coggins testing,
body scoring, coat & skin condition,
and, if necessary, a pregnancy test.We also contact our farrier and have their hooves examined and
treated immediately.The animal
is then kept under our care until they reach a body score of five and
are socially and psychologically adjusted before being put up foradoption. If the
animal has been through too much abuse or is too old to handle the
stress of adapting to a new home, one of our members will care for them,
or we will foster them to a caring home to live out their days in peace.
